Arming the doors means activating the emergency evacuation slide.
When the doors are armed, opening them in an emergency will automatically deploy the slide. Before normal boarding or after landing, the doors are disarmed so the slide does not inflate by mistake.
Cabin crew arm the doors before departure and disarm them after landing.
