On Tuesday afternoon, a Delta Air Lines flight bound for Atlanta from Santa Ana, California experienced an engine malfunction. Passengers on board captured video footage of the incident, which shows flames and smoke coming from the right-hand engine of the 25-year-old Boeing 757 aircraft. The pilots immediately aborted takeoff and returned to the gate.

The incident occurred at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana and airport fire engines rushed to the scene to escort the aircraft back to the terminal. Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the 172 passengers and crew on board the flight.

Delta Air Lines confirmed that the incident was caused by an “engine maintenance issue” and apologised to customers for the inconvenience. The airline rerouted passengers to their final destinations as quickly as possible. An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the engine malfunction.
