Wizz Air has announced opening of its 41st base in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The airline will station one Airbus A320 at Sarajevo Airport in order to operate nine routes from May, with 21 departures per week.
Wizzes Air will begin three weekly flights to Copenhagen, Dortmund and Basel, as well as two weekly rotations to Charleroi, Memmingen, London Luton, Beauvais, Eindhoven and Gothenburg.

Today’s announcement indicates our commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are certain Wizz Air will have a positive impact on the economic development and growth of tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, said Andras Rado, Wizz Air’s Corporate Communications Manager.
“It is particularly important that these are destinations where there is a large diaspora. This important company introduced flights from Budapest to Sarajevo four years ago, which saw great interest and thanks to which a significant number of people had the opportunity to visit the beautiful capital of Hungary, but which also enabled the arrival of a large number of tourists to our city”, added Nermin Zijadić, Sarajevo Airport’s Operations Manager.
Sarajevo Airport and Wizz Air started talks on a potential base as early as 2016. However, protracted negotiations ended in failure as both sides failed to reach agreement on the charges.
Wizz Air’s history in Bosnia and Herzegovina dates back to May 2013, when the first aircraft departed from Tuzla to Swedish city Malmö. The airline has handled nearly 3 million passengers to and from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past 8 years.
Wizz Air started talks with Sarajevo Airport over a potential base as early as 2016. However, the drawn-out negotiations failed at the time after the two sides failed to reach an agreement over fees.
